One of the world’s most popular contemporary dance groups, NDT2 returns to Sadler’s Wells ahead of a UK tour with a programme including Jiří Kylián’s award-winning Gods and Dogs, NDT2Associate Artist Alexander Ekman’s Cacti and Passe-Partout by Paul Lightfoot and Sol León.
Gods and Dogs is Jiří Kylián’s 100th work for Nederlands Dans Theater. First performed in 2008 it has been described as “a work of rare beauty” (Dance Europe). Jiří Kylián was Artistic Director of NDT2 from 1975 to 1999, and is still one of the company’s resident choreographers. Gods and Dogs won the 2009 Zwaan (Swan) Awards for Best Dance Production and Best Dance Achievement.
Alexander Ekman’s works are known for their clever ideas, fast-paced choreography and dry wit. A former dancer with NDT2 and Cullberg Ballet, Ekman now works as a choreographer with many of the world’s leading dance companies. Cacti is a humorous piece about how dancers use their bodies to interact with music.
Paul Lightfoot was recently appointed Artistic Director of Nederlands Dans Theater.Lightfoot has been with the company since 1985, first as a dancer, then as a choreographer together with Sol León. They became renowned choreographers and were appointed resident choreographers of NDT in 2002. To date, Lightfoot and León have created over 40 works for the company. Their collaboration Passe-Partoutfeatures music by Philip Glass.
Founded in 1978, NDT2 is the younger company of Nederlands Dans Theater and has established a reputation for the astounding technique and boundless energy of its dancers. The company consists of 16 dancers aged between 17 and 23 years. NDT2 is directed by Gerald Tibbs and performs all over the world from their base in The Hague.
Following the performances at Sadler’s Wells, NDT2 will visit six further UK venues, as part of a Dance Consortium tour, ending at Nottingham Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 31 March 2012.
The programme on tour also includes Déjà vu and Solo by Hans van Manen, Minus 16 by Ohad Naharin, Studio 2 (Lightfoot León) and Sleepless by Jiří Kylián. For further details please see notes to editors.

Dance Consortium
Dance Consortium is a group of 19 large scale theatres located across the UK. They all share a passion for engaging people with contemporary dance from different parts of the world that will excite, challenge, entertain and inspire their audiences.
Dance Consortium was established in 2000, when there were few opportunities to see international dance companies outside London and occasional festivals. Over the last 10 years, Dance Consortium has presented 27 tours of 17 different companies from the USA, Brazil, Australia, the Netherlands, Canada, Taiwan, Cuba and France. Their performances and education activities have been seen by over 507,500 people.
Dance Consortium performances are often followed by a chance for audiences to ask questions of the company and occasionally companies offer special events such as dance classes or workshops.
