SINGERS ANNOUNCED FOR WAYNE McGREGOR / MARK RONSON COLLABORATION WITH THE ROYAL BALLET

A star-studded line up of singers was announced today to accompany The Royal Ballet onstage in a new work, choreographed by Wayne McGregor with music by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt.

The ballet, entitled Carbon Life, will be set to a cycle of nine love songs which will be sung by Boy George, Alison Mosshart of The Kills, Jonny Pierce of The Drums, Hero Fisher and rappers Wale and his protégé Black Cobain (Wale will perform the opening show, with Black Cobain taking his place for the remaining five performances). Andrew Wyatt, of the band Miike Snow, will perform in place of Jonny Pierce on 23 April.

Singer / songwriter Rufus Wainwright, who had his own five night residency at the Royal Opera House last year, has orchestrated the music. Designs are by British fashion designer Gareth Pugh.

Carbon Life will be one of three ballets in a mixed programme which includes another world premiere by rising choreographic star Liam Scarlett and Christopher Wheeldon’s 2001 ballet Polyphonia, and opens on 5 April. Ticket prices start at just £3 with a top price of £42.

Performance dates: 5, 10, 12, 14, 18, 23 April
The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden WC2E 9DD

  1. Oh dear Heavens – thus is going to try my willingness to reach out to Mr McGregor to the limits. I have succeeded over many years in never being anywhere that Boy George and his ilk have been – must that change now? Do I have to wear an odd black hat and attempt to fix my age-diminished hair in some kind of ringlets? (And he can’t really be a boy still, can he? He was around when my daughters were in their teens, and that was at least the day before yesterday.)

Oh dear – and again, oh dear!
