Dorrance Dance – ETM: Double Down – New York

★★★★✰   Michelle Dorrance is an extraordinary tapper, but what stands out most about her company isn’t her skill, or the skill of her dancers, but rather the funky individuality they all share.

Northern Ballet – Swan Lake – Milton Keynes

★★★✰✰   Although David Nixon authored this ballet long before Lord Grantham was a twinkle in Julian Fellowes’ eye, it certainly provides an inkling of Swan Lake meets Downton Abbey.

Scottish Ballet – Swan Lake (Dawson premiere) – Glasgow

★★★✰✰   Sophie Martin’s Odette/Odille, despite the costume, steals the show with layers of dramatic nuance on top of the pushed lines of Dawson’s steps.

New York Theatre Ballet – Cinderella – New York

★★✰✰✰   Despite New York Theatre Ballet gearing its tightly edited, hour-long, rendition of Cinderella towards children, NYTB had tough, abundantly vocal, critics on Sunday afternoon, all of whom were under three feet tall.

★★★★✰   It seems an age (well 4 years) since NDT2 were last touring the UK and I’ve missed them. They might be the young company of Nederlands Dans Theater (aged 18-23) but they put on a fine show…
