Nederlands Dans Theater is paying London’s Sadler’s Wells a short visit (26-29 June) with an interesting bill of works by Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke & the duo Paul Lightfoot & Sol Leon.

Gauthier Dance – NIJINSKI – Stuttgart

★★★✰✰   NIJINSKI neatly lassos this altogether using Goecke’s avant garde movement style …to give the Stuttgart audience an abstract impression of Nijinsky’s life and contribution to Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes.

Ivan Putrov – Men in Motion – Lodz Ballet Festival

The most impressive (if not, incredible) thing is that his scratch company exudes the professionalism that one would expect from a tight-knit group that has lived, trained, rehearsed and performed together for seasons.

Stuttgart Ballet – Made in Germany bill – London

Reid Anderson can certainly pick dancers and choreographers in the making. We really do need to see Stuttgart Ballet more often in order to keep up with his discoveries.

…so I will just conclude with noting that another depressing thing about the evening’s kitsch-ridden choreography was that it didn’t quite obscure the occasional glimmers of brilliance that reminded us that these men are, indeed, among the world’s best, despite this tawdry presentation.
