In the Royal Ballet’s last programme for this season two old favourites frame the first performances of Alastair Marriott’s latest work, Connectome. It’s a well-balanced evening and gives the new piece every chance to shine.

Paris Opera Ballet – Fall River Legend, Miss Julie – Paris

…an unusual choice of bill. Unusual firstly as the work of two women choreographers, and secondly in that it gives audiences a rare chance to see ballets from the extremely interesting and creative period of the 1940’s and 1950’s, now sadly neglected.

Amy Seiwert’s SKETCH 2, The Women Choreographers & ODC/Dance Summer Sampler – San Francisco

The idea behind Amy Seiwert’s SKETCH 2 is to promote women ballet choreographers. Included in the press kit was an informal survey of twenty-four ballet companies with income over $5 million in the United States. Of the 302 works to be performed this upcoming season only 27 were by seventeen women.

Royal Danish Ballet – ‘Ballet for Beginners’ Dans2Go bill – Copenhagen

One of the posters for the Royal Danish Ballet’s Dans2Go programme, now in its second year, describes it as ‘Ballet for Beginners’: it’s intended primarily as a taster evening to show new audiences what ballet can do, via three short pieces covering the widest possible range. All tickets cost 150 kroner – about £17 – or half that for under-25s or students, so it’s not surprising that every performance sells out…
