The programme was so underwhelming that I went twice in succession, to see whether alternative casts could make a difference.
It looks as though Natalia Osipova is to become Sylvie Guillem’s successor at the Royal Ballet, giving her idiosyncratic interpretation of a role whether or not it aligns with the company’s existing production.
The performance was sold out and very warmly applauded and I hope the Festival authorities will take notice, and schedule a similar programme in future years.
Now Is All There Is - Bodies in Motion, is an exhibition of 34 stylized images of Royal Ballet dancers taken by photographer Rick Guest.
The compere of the evening was Anthony Dowell, in fine voice. He spoke the narration, enacted several of the characters and gallantly danced the ‘Fred step’ from Pavlova’s 'Gavotte' with Ursula Hageli as Anna.
