Cannes Dance Festival – Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse: The Beast and Beauty, Lyon Opera Ballet: Kylian bill – Cannes
For the festival Brigitte Lefèvre chose an eclectic mixture of popular and audacious programmes from twelve different companies – mainly regional French companies… some smaller independent groups and international companies from Korea, Argentina and Spain.

Mikhailovsky Ballet – Le Halte de Cavalerie, Class Concert, Prelude – New York
The idea behind the triptych is to show three aspects of the company’s style: the classicism and character dance of Petipa; the technical pizzazz of mid-twentieth-century Soviet dance, the eccentricities and atmospherics of contemporary movement…

Boston Ballet – Program B: Symphony in Three Movements, L’Apres-Midi d’un Faune, Plan to B, Bella Figura – New York
…the dancers seem able to handle whatever comes their way. It’s a quality that will serve them well in their travels.

Boston Ballet – Program A: The Second Detail, Resonance, Cacti – New York
Like the best comedians, Ekman is as facetious as he is profound, leaving the viewer with plenty to ponder post-performance.

Boston Ballet – C. to C. (Close to Chuck) Reborn, Resonance, Bella Figura – Boston
Elo’s Close to Chuck …this is a wonderful ballet and, I predict, a permanent addition to the repertory.

Boston Ballet – Polyphonia, Bella Figura, The Second Detail – London
I hope the company return to London, and if they do, I hope they bring some other Forsythe work.

Australian Ballet – 50th Anniversary Gala – Melbourne
It was a program that harkened back to the big international Galas of previous years, as well as a nice reference to the company’s first years, when artists including Sonia Arova, Erik Bruhn, Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev guest-starred.

Boston Ballet – Play with Fire triple bill – Boston
But in Sharper, aggressively awkward movements are kept to a minimum: the ugly is reduced, and the residue now acts like a tonic of wit. And for the first time in Elo’s work, at least in my experience, we find a lyricism and beauty so profound they sometimes took my breath away.
