Bill T. Jones – Analogy/Dora: Tramontane – New York

★★★✰✰   ‘Dora: Tramontane’ is a powerful and elegant piece of theatre… What it isn’t, is a particularly engrossing piece of dance theatre.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater – Lincoln Center Programs A & B – New York

Since becoming artistic director at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 2011, Robert Battle has been steadily mixing up the company’s repertory, adding works by choreographers beyond its usual range: Paul Taylor, Ohad Naharin, and Wayne McGregor, to name just three.

James Welsby – Hex (part of Next Wave Festival) – Melbourne

James Welsby’s ‘Hex’, which premiered as part of the 2014 Next Wave Festival, can be read as a kind of bookend to Bill T. Jones ‘Still/Here’. It has been informed by more than twenty years of queer activism…

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre – Chroma, D-Man in the Waters (Part I), LIFT – New York

Bill T. Jones and SITI Company – A Rite, /Time:Study 1 – San Francisco

A Rite, in the hands of Jones, Bogart, and Wong, is the most startling and insightful version I have seen…

Bill T. Jones – Ravel: Landscape or Portrait? and Story/ – New York

San Francisco International Arts Festival – May 2012

Every May for the past nine years the SFIAF presented an amazing array of live music, theater and dance from all over the world. Most of these performers would never be seen here in San Francisco if it weren’t for festival director Andrew Wood’s fanatic desire to bring as many diverse groups as the limited budget will allow.
