★★★★✰   How many ways can you hear the same piece of music? This inspired programme by Lyon Opera Ballet suggested, with elegant simplicity, that there are as many ways to hear something as there are people to hear it.

Scottish Ballet – Swan Lake (Dawson premiere) – Glasgow

★★★✰✰   Sophie Martin’s Odette/Odille, despite the costume, steals the show with layers of dramatic nuance on top of the pushed lines of Dawson’s steps.

Cannes Dance Festival – Ballet du Capitole de Toulouse: The Beast and Beauty, Lyon Opera Ballet: Kylian bill – Cannes

For the festival Brigitte Lefèvre chose an eclectic mixture of popular and audacious programmes from twelve different companies – mainly regional French companies… some smaller independent groups and international companies from Korea, Argentina and Spain.

Hong Kong Arts Festival – Lyon Opera Ballet, Les Ballets De Monte Carlo and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui

Local audiences also saw the return of the Lyon Opera Ballet. Their mixed programme consisted of two ballets by Benjamin Millepied, a ballet by Maguy Marin, and best of all, Balanchine’s masterpiece, Concerto Barocco, staged by Nanette Glushak.

Lyon Opera Ballet – Hong Kong Arts Festival quad bill – Hong Kong

Grosse Fugue by Maguy Marin… Performed with energy by the dancers and received with rapturous applause by some of the audience, this is either genius at work or less fun than watching paint dry, depending on your point of view.
