Royal Ballet – Coppélia – London

★★★★✰   The dancing is so enjoyable, the comedy so appealing, that any flaws in the story telling are easily overlooked.

Birmingham Royal Ballet – Autumn delights: La fille mal gardée & The Nutcracker – London & Birmingham

★★★★✰   I look forward to the changes inevitably coming to BRB, but I can’t believe any new director will turn their back on such repertoire gems as La fille mal gardee and their Peter Wright Nutcracker.

Birmingham Royal Ballet – Coppelia and Three Short Story Ballets – Bristol and Birmingham

★★★✰✰   I went to Bristol to catch Coppelia and the specific lead casting of Celine Gittens and Tyrone Singleton – who have now totally transitioned from being rising stars to fully risen Principals.

American Ballet Theatre – La Fille Mal Gardée – New York

★★★★★   La Fille Mal Gardée is a ballet that glows from within, lighthearted, tender and bursting with happy ideas.

Mikhailovsky Ballet – La Fille mal gardee (Vasiliev / Kuligina) – St. Petersburg

Kuligina was the perfect foil for Vasiliev’s Colin (Colas) and the pair played off one another. There could be no better role for Vasiliev…

Mikhailovsky Ballet – La Fille mal gardee – St. Petersburg

…the audience was in thrall to the bucolic genius of Ashton’s production with as many curtain calls at the premiere as I can recall witnessing for a very long time.

Birmingham Royal Ballet – Coppelia and Mid-scale Tour – Birmingham, High Wycombe

Birmingham Royal Ballet are busy at the moment – we catch up with them touring a mixed bill, and at home in Coppelia – happy times…

Paris Opera Ballet – La Fille mal Gardee – Paris

Ould-Braham had just been made étoile and her performance seemed, to me, buoyed by an extra layer of joy and happiness. Hoffalt was completely at ease in both technique and characterization. When they celebrated their wedding onstage, the audience went crazy.
