American Ballet Theatre – Spring Gala – New York

Symphony in C, a luminous outpouring of legs and arms, crisp geometries, bobbing rhythms, and articulate patter-like conversations for the feet, is a vivid reminder of why one goes to the ballet at all. Luminosity and classical logic, laced with wit and intelligence.

23rd International Ballet Festival of Havana, 2012

The festival was as intensive as ever, with three performances running on seven days, four on one day, some concurrently. The range and quality of dance overall was impressive.

Paris Opera Ballet – La Source – HD cinema broadcast

…Bart’s a gifted and discerning artist, with a deep understanding of the Opera’s heritage and style. Rather than trying to “recreate” the long-forgotten original choreography by Arthur St. Leon, Bart’s made a new work that feels old, as if it had long been a warhorse of the Opera’s repertory, subject to over a century of vagaries in taste and technique, yet emerging today all the richer for the experience, and eloquent of its history.

Birmingham Royal Ballet – Daphnis & Chloe, Two Pigeons – London

…the evening really belonged to Robert Parker, giving his last performance in London and challenging memories of almost any of his predecessors. Whilst being very, very charming he also has some of the toughness which I think Ashton originally intended, and the sincerity of his regret at the end was entirely convincing. He will be sadly missed.

Paris Opera Ballet – La Bayadère – Paris

At the end the curtain came up once again, and Brigitte Lefèvre (artistic director of the ballet) and Nicolas Joel (director of the opera as a whole) emerged to announce the promotion of the evening’s Solor, Josua Hoffalt, to the ultimate rank: étoile. There were buckets of tears, from Hoffalt, Gilbert, and Dupont. In fact, it was the high point of the evening. An uncontrolled release of emotion, at last.

Frederick Ashton Foundation and Christopher Nourse

Not Trusting to Fate – The Frederick Ashton Foundation’s avowed purpose is to perpetuate the choreographer’s legacy. But to do so, it needs the co-operation of those to whom Ashton willed his ballets…
