Today Northern Ballet announced their 50th Anniversary Programme and I quickly put togther a single page of the plans that I could tweet as a picture. Under is that page just converted into text.

50th Anniversary Celebration Gala – Leeds Grand Theatre, 4 January 2020
Northern Ballet will be joined by guest stars from The Royal Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, English National Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre performing excerpts from Northern Ballet’s repertoire and works connected to the Company’s history.

Geisha (World Première) – The new one from Kenneth Tindall, who created the hit Casanova. Based on a true story, Geisha is the haunting tale of two young women trapped in a world of duty and sacrifice, who can only be saved by a promise from beyond the grave. Original music by Alexandra Harwood, original scenario and dramaturgy by Gwyneth Hughes (ITV’S Vanity Fair), set and costume by Christopher Oram (Casanova) and lighting by Alastair West.

Cinderella – David Nixon‘s production from 2013 returns with its original score by Philip Feeney, sets by Duncan Hayler, costumes by Nixon himself and lighting by Tim Mitchell.

Three Short Ballets – Newcastle, Northern Stage, 17 – 18 April 2020.
The Kingdom of Back by the admired Morgann Runacre-Temple, Powerhouse Rhumba by David Nixon & For an Instant by Amaury Lebrun. Announced already and touring in autumn 2019.

The Great GatsbyDavid Nixon’s much loved work, based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald book, returns. From 2013 the music is by Richard Rodney Bennett, sets by Jérôme Kaplan, costumes by Nixon himself and lighting by Tim Mitchell.

Leeds Playhouse, 3 – 12 Sept 2020 | Nottingham Theatre Royal, 15 – 19 Sept 2020 | Sheffield, Lyceum Theatre, 27 – 31 Oct 2020

Merlin (World Première) – Merlin is a magical spectacle inspired by the story of the legendary wizard. Drew McOnie will make his debut with Northern Ballet – previous projects include Broadway’s King Kong and Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom. Original music by Grant Olding (One Man Two Guvnors), scenario by Gwyneth Hughes (ITV’s Vanity Fair), set and costume designs by Colin Richmond (Grease, UK Tour) and lighting by Anna Watson. In addition, Chris Fisher, International Illusions and Magic Associate on Harry Potter & the Cursed Child has been appointed as Illusionist for Merlin.

Little Red Riding Hood – Touring Spring 2020 tour, details to be announced.
Choreographed by Mariana Rodrigues and premieres Leeds Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre on 2 Oct 2019. (announced already)

New Children’s Ballet – premieres October 2020 – details to be announced.

Digital Dance – The company will present 3 new films, including a new direct to digital piece by Kenneth Tindall. See digitaldance.org
