RB, NBoC & ABT dancers at the Joyce Ballet Festival – Prog B, curated by Lauren Cuthbertson – New York

★★✰✰✰   I hadn’t seen much of the well-regarded Cuthbertson, so I was looking forward to this chance to get to know her (she appeared in four of five pieces), as well as the not-always-dubious introduction to new works by new choreographers…

Royal Ballet dancers at the Joyce Ballet Festival – Program A, An Evening of Solos and Duets – New York

★★★✰✰   Program A consisted of a string of solos and duets representing a slice of the company’s choreographic trajectory, from Frederick Ashton through Kenneth MacMillan to Liam Scarlett, Wayne McGregor, and Charlotte Edmonds.

Royal Ballet – The Firebird, A Month in the Country, Symphony in C – London

★★★★✰   Three short but densely packed ballets infused with a strong Russian flavour were at the heart of the Royal Ballet’s last bill of the season.

Royal Ballet – Asphodel Meadows, The Two Pigeons – London

★★★★✰   Liam Scarlett’s Asphodel Meadows has made a welcome return to the Opera House stage, reminding us exactly why his prodigious talent was given a main stage debut when the choreographer was just 24.

★★★✰✰   The story line becomes as labyrinthine as the ribbons of tape that criss-cross Paul’s bedroom.

Gary Avis and Friends Flyer - 2016

The Royal Ballet’s Gary Avis & Friends – Dance for Suffolk

Led by Gary Avis and a Royal Ballet all-star cast, the company will perform an especially created programme of Royal Ballet classics, hosted by BBC Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton du Beke.

Royal Ballet – Concerto, Las Hermanas, Requiem – London

It’s an interesting evening, showing both choreographer and company at their best and at somewhat less than that.

Royal Ballet – Birthday Offering, A Month in the Country, Les Noces – London

It is a fine selection which illustrates the variety of the Royal’s heritage works, which must beg the question how well are they are danced now…
